It’s a wonderful day in Angel Grove California, the sun is shining bright over the rolling green hills of Angel Grove Park in the center of the sprawling metropolis. To the untrained eye, one would think that this is your typical community. Kids are running with kites, dogs barking joyfully, and a group of every day teens toss a football between them. We close in on the group and see them even closer. Each one an individual in their own right.
To an outside view nobody would think these kids would be friends. A jock, a rebel, a joker, a photographer, and a kind heart. All five of them enjoying the day.
Sitting on the ground, reading from a copy of ‘Sense and Sensibility’. is Sadie at 16 he shines brightest out of the group with honey blonde hair and green eyes. His big heart and welcoming soul don’t always leave him in the best place. Often leaving his heart on his sleeve, he would seem to be an easy target, if it weren’t for his best friend Charlie.
The football soars through the air at a breakneck speed. Sadie looks up just in time to see it heading right for his head. Right as it’s about to make contact a heavy body rolls onto the ground in front of him, intercepting it.
“AH!!” Sadie throws his book up, hoping not to feel any sort of impact. After a second he lowers it to see a smiling face.
“No worries Sadie, I gotcha covered” His voice bounces jubilantly.
Sadie laughs and smiles with a sarcastic swoon. “Oh Charlie, My hero.”
Charlie is 17, is tall, muscular, Australian, and incredibly imposing. If it weren’t for Sadie, he would never really stand out from the corners of Angel Grove High he usually finds himself in. His brooding personality and impending looks would normally scare people away. He gently tosses the football to-
17 year old Ryan was one of those people who was regularly frightened by Charlie. His deep brown skin and black hair glowed with his bright smile on the warm day. Humor was always his way of dealing with the problems in life. Not only did it help him get, by but it also gained him some amazing friends. Like Bailey, 17, with bright eyes and olive skin, Bailey is the guy you look at and just know he’s a good kid. He’s always willing to give it his all, and determined to see anything through.
Seeing all of this through the lens of her camera is Haley, 16. Her long flowing red hair is nothing but a reflection to her fiery spirit. Her drive truly completes this group of close friends. Each one of them brings out something truly remarkable in the other. The real thing, is they’re more than just friends. They’re a team.
Haley lifts her camera up to her eye. “Hold that pose! It’s perfect for the yearbook!” She pushes a long strand of hair behind her ear and waits for the click of the camera.
Ryan pauses mid throw. “You know, if you keep doing this I’ll never get a good throw in!”
Bailey laughs heartily, jabbing at his best friend. “Sure, blame it on the camera!”
On a seemingly normal day, the teens goof around as usual. Watching from the outside you would think that this was nothing more than a noxema commercial. Until the ground begins to rumble and screams echo from a distance.
You see, Angel Grove isn’t your normal city, it’s home to something extraordinary. And these every day teens, are more than meets the eye.
All five of them stop in their tracks, exchanging knowing glances. Just as they begin to shrug off the noise, a crowd of frightened citizens rushes over the hill.
Avoiding the large throng of people, the teens group together. Bailey leans in to his close friends. “So much for a day off!”
Just as the crowd clears, something more rises over the hill, this time moving a bit slower. It’s a group of grotesque looking rock creatures. Their faces are sharp and angular as if they were chiseled out of a sickly gray stone. Behind the crag of a facial structure are red burning eyes. They’re putties, foot soldiers of Lord Zedd and his wife Rita Repulsa.
Zedd and his kingdom were notorious around the galaxy. Once they were of intergalactic nobility, but when war broke out Zedd sold his soul to gain more power to enslave his opposing armies. He had destroyed countless civilizations before setting his targets on earth.
What looked like an unprotected trophy ready to be added to his shelf held a powerful secret.
The teens stood together unaffected. This was just another day at the office for them. These are no regular teenagers. These five are non other than the Power Rangers. A superhuman fighting force in charge of protecting earth from Lord Zedd and his armies of evil space aliens.
Without any hesitation the rangers charge forth into the group of stone warriors. With a dizzying array of punches and kicks they make quick work of a the first wave of foot soldiers. But more and more of them come forth. Just as the teenagers are ready to give in, they feel a surge of power that shoots an electricity through their veins. Like a backup generator it pushes them forward.
Using his strength, Charlie rushes through a line of putties, using one of their own as a shield. The thing about these sorts of creatures is that they’re deeply stupid, as well as incredibly fragile. It made them vulnerable to fast attacks.
Coming up behind Charlie in a somersault is Haley. She uses her momentum to land a double footed kick into the chest of a stone attacker. With the force of a truck he whips back into a few of his comrades, each of them crumbling into pieces.
Haley smiles to herself, coyly. “Five putties…”
Ryan delivers a heavy punch to a puttie’s face, knocking it clean off it’s neck, then follows through by flipping it’s heavy body over his shoulder into a group of soldiers, crumbling them into bits as well.
Ryan finishes her sentence. “One stone”
Dodging the remnants of puttie parts, Sadie flips head over heels, all the while dodging two of his own adversaries in the process. He lands in a split and ducks. Both putties at his sides end up knocking each other’s heads off with heavy punches to the face. Sadie then jumps up to his feet.
“What do you know… two putties, no stone” He tosses the wavy blonde hair out of his eyes. “Beat that!”
Bailey stands warily, surrounded in a circle by seven putties. “I can beat that.”
Just as the words leave his mouth, a puttie charges him. Thinking fast Bailey jumps over the lunging glob of clay and rolls to the ground before popping back up to his feet, delivering a quick uppercut to the putties to his left and right.
As if like clockwork the putties begin to come at him one by one, each one’s eyes glowing with a ferocity unmatched by the last. Each puttie is dispatched just as quickly as the last with a swift hit from Bailey. Just when he seemed to have taken the last one out, another arrived.
Charlie had just pummeled through a few when he saw Bailey in the thick of the footmen. “Hey Bailey? Need some assistance?”
“The thought crossed my mind.” Bailey said between grunts.
Charlie looks to Sadie. “What do you say? Crouching mammoth, flying tiger?”
“Let’s rock it!” Sadie runs towards Charlie, who then falls to his back and angles his feet up. Sadie then launches himself into the air towards his friend.
The blonde lands feet first on Charlie’s feet for just a second until Charlie, using Sadie’s momentum, rebounds the 16 year old by extending his leg just as Sadie stands on his own.
The power of both their legs sends Sadie soaring into the air. Just as he hits the height of his jump he screams out for Bailey’s attention. “SKY HOOK!”.
Bailey catches Sadie mid air by the wrists in an air tight grip. Using their mutual momentum, Bailey swings Sadie in a circle. Every putty Sadie Passes he uses powerful kicks to knock their heads clean off their shoulders leaving nothing but pebbles and dust.
The two slow to a stop just in time to see the surrounding putties crumble to merely nothing. They are soon joined by the rest of the gang.
“You’ve been working on that move haven’t you?” Kealey gives Charlie a playful punch on the shoulder.
Before Charlie can respond, the ground around them erupts in explosive force, sending the teens soaring onto their backs. They stand together, strong.
Each one a little out of breath. Through the hanging smoke from where they once stood comes what could very well be the love child of a rat and toaster. Flanked on both sides by more putties.
“You’d think they’d run out of those boulder brains,” Ryan says. “But no, they just keep on coming.”
Without warning a group of putties push their way through the Rangers. Heir faces are a horrid blend of clay and rock. These are clearly not the putties we are used to. Their hands are sharpened into blades, clearly ready for a taste of blood.
Haley blocks a punch to her face. “What do you know, they come in extra large too.” She dodges a kick and delivers a heavy hit to his abdomen. “But seriously, who invited these crashers?”
Charlie elbows one in the neck while simultaneously kicking another heavy in the chest. “C’mon Haley, what’s a villain without his lackeys.”
Sadie rolls over one of the supercharged putties back to back and falls into a split to avoid a blade to the face. The blade in turn gets lodged into a tree. “Charlie, I believe the term you are looking for is villain support.” He rises and knees the puttie in the stomach and rips him away from the tree, tossing him into a fellow foot soldier.
“You’re not actually fighting for the ethical treatment of the guys who are trying to annihilate us, are you?” Ryan rams two of them together, knocking them to pieces, then turns around to nail one right in the face.
As is by plan the putties all join together and throw the rangers back .They truly are stronger than any other putties that the rangers have faced before.
Bailey, determined, stands to his feet. “You thinking what I’m thinking?”
“I think it’s time to breakout the hardware.” Ryan says with a sideways smile. Clearly these guys have some tricks up their sleeves.
“Let’s do it guys.” Bailey moves to the front, clearly the leader of the team. “IT’S MORPHING TIME!”
The teens reveal wrist mounted morphers with a brilliant glow of light. The light swallows each of them whole for a mere seconds. In a wash of confusion the putties shield their eyes. When they look again, the see a terrifying site- THE MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS.
Clad in high tech armor, each of the teens is a powerhouse of agility, strength, brains, and heart. They are the legendary Power Rangers of Angel Grove, asserted by Zordon of Eltar to defend the planet against the invaders from other galaxies.
Without warning the putties begin to swarm the rangers in a swell of courage. The five of them part ways, each one taking on their own special group.
Charlie, clad in her armor as the green ranger, does and impressive back kick, and using his momentum flips forward and lands another kick right into the chest of another putty. Both of them explode into clay pieces before dissolving into dust. He then goes after another with a few punches to the gut. The putty gets in one lucky shot and Charlie falls back. With a quick turn, he reveals a large axe.
”Sorry dude, you’ve been cut!” He laughs from behind his mask. Even he knew that it was a cheesy line.
With a giant swing the axe slices through him, exploding him into dust.
Ryan and Sadie both cross each other with back hand springs before being trapped in a circle of putties. The Yellow of Sadie’s uniform and the Blue of Ryan’s seem to glow against the dark dank gray of the putties. The two rangers, locking arms back to back, decide to make the best of teamwork. Ryan swings Sadie around, while he seemingly walks across their chests sending a domino effect of dissolving minions. With his feet firmly on the ground, Sadie bends over allowing Ryan to roll of his back and slam into two more oncoming putties. Dust.
They stand back to back and turn in a circle revealing their weapons as well. Ryan, holding his lance takes one two more putties before splitting it into two and slashing them across the chest, turning them to dust.
Sadie, using his daggers, battle two putties and their sword like hands with an array of moves before a swift slam of his daggers into their chests, causing another eruption of dust.
Haley, in her Pink Ranger uniform, runs straight into a tree, up it’s trunk, and then kicks off with he feet, somersaulting over two putties. The second they turn around she jumps into the air and kicks the both of them in the chest.
As they explode behind her she turns around and cartwheels between four putties. She gains her feet and turns around to reveal her bow. With a few flicks of the wrist she skewers the four putties with an arrow seemingly made of light. They burst into dust within a second
“Some people just don’t know the power of pink!”
Bailey, in red, with a devastating combos of punches takes out four putties before being grabbed on both arms by another duo. He uses their own weight against them and swings the two into each other. Dazed the let go and he pulls of a double kick, landing both of them in the chest. They crumble into a heap of cold rock.
He turns to face another set of goons, this time holding a powerful sword. They are no match for him and in a few swipes, are nothing but gravel. Just as he gets back to his feet and turns around, the Rat Toaster is there, leering with three more putties. Bailey doesn’t flinch.
“Hey there good lookin, you going my way?”
“Prepare to face the wrath of RATOASTA!” He snarles throu mangled metal teeth.
“Really?” Baily holds back a laugh. This guy had to be at the bottom 5 of Zedd’s legion of followers. Still, the red ranger knew not to underestimate an alien with a vendetta. “Alright, show me what you’ve got!”
Using dizzying amounts of kicks and punches, Bailey goes hand to hand with the monster. His armor seemingly emits light as a sword appears in his hand. He gets in a few good gashes before he is whipped with a thick black attachment that Bailey was almost positive to be modeled after a power chord from hell.
Just as he falls back to recover, Sadie and Haley jump in and try to double team him. They fall back as well leaving the Ryan and Charlie to take a turn. They land in a few more hits than the rest but end up being tossed back as rag dolls as well. The team gains footing again together. It’s time to break out the big guns.
“Alright rangers! Let’s Bring em together!” Bailey calls out to his friends. Each one of them pulls their weapons in and combines them together. The Axe, Bow, Sword, Lance, and Daggers all meld into a small cannon.
Red stands behind it, joined by Pink and Green on his left and Blue and Yellow on his right. The power between them pulses through the air, creating a currant that connects with the blaster in front of them. Bailey doesn’t hide the smile growing behind his helmet.
This was probably the best after school job he could ever ask for. He makes a difference, saves the world. And more importantly, he has made friends that are closer than family. Nothing on this earth could stop him from protecting that.
“FIRE!”
